Apple is making it easier for iPhone users to use a music service they subscribe to, with Siri in the iOS 14.5 public beta to set their preferred default app for voice requests.

IPhone and iPad owners are usually used to having to specify the name of a music service as part of a verbal Siri request. A change spotted in the first beta of iOS 14.5 indicates that this may not always be the case in the future.

Surfed by Reddit and first spotted by MacRumors, users asking Siri to play a song for the first time in the beta are given a selection of music or streaming services to choose from. Users are then supposed to select the desired service from the list, which will start playing through that app.

It is important to note that user selection is set by default for future song play requests, playing the song without adding “on Spotify” or “on Deezer” at the end of the request.

The presence of the option in the beta is new and promising for those who don’t want to remind Siri of their favorite service. There is no guarantee that it will arrive as part of the final version of iOS 14.5.

Apple currently only allows changing the default browser and messaging apps in iOS. It may be a sign of new changes taking place.
